Looks exactly like one that I have from Avon...black stone & made of sterling silver. I was told the stone was black sapphire. Now I am wondering if it is or not.

It is so nice to get to visit with you. This is made better than an Avon ring. I have never done well with Avon jewelry. I enjoy wearing my jewelry wearing it often and for extended time periods sometimes. It has to be well made to take that kind of abuse.If you have a jewelers eye or loop (some go so far as to use a microscope) you can take the ring you were told was a black sapphire and look at it. As you do you should see hues of light permeate thru the stone allowing color to burst forth. Onyx is a solid stone- illustrious and beautiful the way it is cut, fitted, displayed adds to its brilliance. But under a loop there is no internal color play. It is good to check them on a loop for cracks, wear, and flaws. :)
