Puppypaws1957, 1,000 starting bid for a like new hardcover book is NOT too much. Even if the starting bid was lower, it would have still gotten up to 1,000 before the auction was over. The reason there are no bids yet, is because most people wait until the auction is almost over to bid. It makes more sense to make a max bid at the very end when other bidders wouldn't have time to outbid you.

cdcornwell, I just looked this book up on Goodreads, and it sounds really interesting. Fanned and watching!
