Ok, maybe someone can help me with this one. Im not sure what its supposed to be, my thoughts is a paper weight but i dont know. It has very beautiful Chinese carvings on one side that could possibly be a seal or s dragon with beautiful writing on the other side. Im not sure what the material that this was made from but when its held to the light you can see a greenish color which makes me think that it might be some kind of jade. The lady whom i had gotten it from said she had gotten it from a trip to China many many years ago. It measures about one inch tall and approximately 2 inches at its biggest part accross

Ok....let me see if I can help you out here! This is a seal that the Officals or Kings would use to put on documents! Even the Painters here in China use them after they finshing their art work! The writing on the bottom of the stamps is in the old Chinese language..so most likely this is a copy of one of the famous people in Chinese History! If it was real,,,it would be worth millions of dollars! I know...I collect them here in China and have many copies and a few that are real from a couple hundred years before...if this one was real, it would date to Tang or Song Dynasity and would have traditionally been buried with the owner at death! Hope this helps you out some! I've been a teacher here in China for 10 years now and love collecting the old things I can find! Your new Listia friends, Michael & Family

I cant believe you would list that here, apparently you have no self value of history or making real $ instead of credits.

I can't believe you would be so rude on someone else's auction. I am a generous person and list things on here because I enjoy it you must not have been taught very good manners to be so rude. But the good thing is you dont have to worry about me and what I give away because you are blocked from my auctions

These are usually made of stone or Jade! Usually Jade can been held to a light and you can see the color of it better! Also....Jade is very strong...so to test it...you usually find a place to do a little scratch test!
Just a small one with a needle or I use my small pocket knife! If it is real Jade...it won't scratch no matter how hard you press! China Mike

I believe Michael8888 above is correct. I have 2 VERY old Buddha pieces that look like they were ornaments on a building of some kind... I really wish I could show them to Michael8888 above. On this piece, does it look like copper? It's hard to tell by the pictures. You mentioned it has green in the crevices. Cooper will do that. I am already a fan, but will be watching this :-)

It does appear to be 18th century dark jade seal, probably part of a set. I found this info on an antique set of seals, "The most important of these seals was the Heirloom Seal of the Realm, which was created by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shihuang, and was seen as a legitimising device embodying or symbolising the Mandate of Heaven. The Heirloom Seal was passed down through several dynasties, but was lost by the beginning of the Ming Dynasty. This partly explains the Qing Emperors' obsession with creating numerous imperial seals - for the Emperors' official use alone the Forbidden City in Beijing has a collection of 25 seals - in order to reduce the significance of the Heirloom Seal. These seals typically bore the titles of the offices, rather than the names of the owners. Different seals could be used for different purposes: for example, Emperor Qianlong had a number of informal appreciation seals used on select paintings in his collection." The set was valued at between 15,000 and 20,000 dollars.

nyreestone. . . . cant believe you say such rude comments on someones auction...
fyi... listia doesnt make "real" money. . . our dollar is very real... and backed by.... exactly... NOTHING!!!! and i got better value in credits than i could get in "real 4". . .. and got stuff with the credits that i could turn into "real" money....
listia is about a barter community... we are sick of the way things were set up by the time we were born into this society... so last few years people are setting up their own systems... like listia... like bitcoin etc..... so care to clarify the comment : "apparently have no self value of history"

Your additional pictures are wonderful! It's obviously jade, and I truly don't think it's a reproduction since you found it at an estate sale, and because of the pictures in the link I sent you, but of course I could be mistaken. It's still a fabulous piece and a wonderful part of Chinese history.

Hi Melissa!!!!! How are you? Looks like you are doing well!!! I would like to put my 2 cents in. Those that are stating this is a stamp are correct. It also appears to be Jade as well. I grew up in my father's antique and jewelry shoppe, watched, listened and learned a lot over my life of 50+ years. He is still in business going on 75 years. This is one of those pieces that before you listed, really should have been appraised and/or authenticated. However, It is likely a reproduction because there would be much more evidence of aging and wear, and possibly some built up residue here and there. No matter the authenticity, it is still a beautiful and collectable piece, as well as what appears to be genuine Jade, which in itself makes it worth a good amount. I think this will do really well for you hon. Should you find anything else you are unsure of, give me a shout and if I don't know what it is, I will send pictures to my dad and he would be happy to educate you. He loves sharing his experience and is very old school. Keep that in mind and best of luck with this listing. Who knows, I might bid on it! Take care sweetie! Your friend, Lydia :)
