I know them as winter onions. My mother had a batch of them and she gave me some when they went to seed. They go to seed if they get too big. Don't pull up the bulb or you won't get anymore til you plant the seed pod. Just cut the sprigs off the side of the original onion. You will get mostly green but if you wait a few more days to cut it there will be more of the white. You will have a large patch of them every year. I love em and they are a big childhood memory every time I go out and cut some.
