Description

The listing, Mesquite Tree Seeds has ended.

Several Mesquite Tree seed pods like those pictured above will be sent to the winning bid. The trees are very drought resistant & beautiful with their light feathery leaves & interesting trunks & branches. I have successfully grown a couple trees from seed & one I've grown in a pot & trained/trimmed as a beautiful Bonsai! More information can be found by doing an internet search for "Mesquite Trees Tucson AZ"

What variety of mesquite trees are these? Have you used the beans for food?

This is the Honey Mesquite, I think. I haven't used it for food but the web site says they are quite commonly used to make a type of flour. These trees are a member of the legume family.

We used to collect the mesquite beans. My grandmother fixed them and we ate them as a snack.

It takes a 5 gallon bucket to make very much flour but it is supposed to be a complete protein, The seed pods are very hard to grind and require a very sturdy way of grinding them.
