Gold Filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating. Gold filled is much more available and tarnish resistant.

Just wanted to post a comment about gold filled rings. I just celebrated my 21st anniversary and have worn the same GF ring for 21 years of showering, washing dishes, swimming...you name it..it's never been off my finger and still looks the same (with normal wear scuffing) after all these years. GF is the way to go for me :)
