Description

The listing, Ancient Christian Bronze Coin with Cross - Theodosius II 408-450 AD - Byzantine Holy Roman Empire has ended.

This is a RARE bronze coin from the Byzantine Era, issued under Theodosius II, who ruled from 408-450 AD. The front features a worn bust of Theodosius II, and the back has a beautifully detailed Christian Cross in a wreath. This would make an awesome addition to any collection or it could be made into an amazing piece of jewelry. See photos for condition. Dime shown for size reference only. Due to the many requests I've had from Canadians, I now ship to Canada! Unfortunately, I have to charge for postage to Canada (Paypal only), but I will keep the price as low as possible. Keep in mind I will happily combine shipping if you win more than one of my auctions! Shipping is FREE in the US, $5 shipping to Canada. Thanks for looking!

Thanks! I've been collecting coins for many years and decided it's time to thin out the collection, so I've been listing lots of old coins here on Listia. Some go cheap and some do well, but overall it's a lot of fun!

I have traveled some, but I have many friends who are history buffs and coin collectors who help me find coins like this one. I love history and it's an amazing feeling to hold a piece of history in your hands.

Thanks for the info! I had ran across a reference saying that it was only made one year, 425 AD, but wasn't completely sure so I gave a broader age just to be safe. Thanks for stopping by and keep watching my auctions, I list Romans and other ancients fairly often.

There are a number of different varieties of Jewish prutah coins, and these are all called "widow's mites" collectively. I have 7 different varieties in my collection. The one I have listed is one of the most popular types, and is considered to be the "classic" widow's mite. Try Googling "Alexander Jannaeus widow's mite" and you'll see what I mean.

I agree. I have a crucifix from 1656 and a VERY early samurai suit of armor with kitana. Cost more than my car. But I honor those who shape our present with their past. Bless u!
