Description

The listing, Mid Century Tiki Bird Ashtray California Pottery Treasure Craft Trinket Holder has ended.

Mid Century 50's or 60's Tiki Bird Ashtray
California Pottery by Treasure Craft

There is some patina and/or rust on the wire handle
Handle moves--it works perfectly and you can't see it on the inside.
Does not look as if it were used as an ashtray--it's nice and clean
No chips or cracks
I don't know what a Tiki bird is--I thought it was a buzzard!
Over all length is about 5" and is about 4 1/2" tall

Info from a website:
Treasure Craft was founded by Alfred A. Levin in Gardena, CA in 1945 when he returned home from the war.
It was moved to Compton, CA in 1956 where it became a leader in producing much desired California Pottery.
Levin is credited for taking a chance (and winning) when he moved away from 50's pastels, and created a "wood stain" which so closely resembles real wood, that one has to look twice!

I myself had never heard of a tiki bird until I found this one. I have loved treasure craft pottery for years but never saw this line of pottery. I don't think it was widely known around my area of the country. Normally, I wouldn't have paid much attention to it..up on the shelf. Whomever ends up with it, I'm sure that they are meant to have it. I believe that things happen for a reason. There are other pieces that were made along this line. I saw a monkey head on eBay. Now that is really creepy looking.

Thank-you! That is a very nice compliment. I love to share some of the interesting facts about some of the things that I list but, at the same time I don't want my ads to be too wordy..you know that people will only read so much...and then their eyes begin to glass over...lol.
