I bought these as part of a collectors set! these are not your dollar store toy soldiers. these are unpainted soldiers and horses made by battle legends and the retail on them is quite high! i have gone through all the soldiers and bagged and tagged them as to which they are grouped.

first the alamo forst itself!
the alamo small end is $29.00 value

marx produced three distinct versions of alamo playsets. the first sets -- based on the disney movie of the alamo starring fess parker -- were titled walt disney's davy crockett at the alamo and were issued by marx in 1955. they sold well in 1955 and 1956, but then faded quickly as kids moved on to other movie and television heroes. the alamo theme was revived in 1960 with the alamo play set, just as john wayne's alamo epic movie was released. this time the company did not directly tie the playsets to the movie and did not include a character figure of john wayne, as it had fess parker. the third and final version -- the battle of the alamo -- was produced in 1972 after the company had been sold to quaker oats. as one of the company's all-time, best-selling playsets, it was one of four "heritage" playsets which quaker oats re-created in an attempt to renew interest in playsets. i don't know what year this was made, but it is a tin metal set with many extras added to it.
