Questions & Comments
HI ! Mazie I like pottery also...this one is a goodie ..bidding on this great listing :)
I have been racking my brain to find this duck on line. I do not have any of my books any longer to give you that information. However, I am not sure at this moment who make it and I will continue to research. However, Brush McCoy did make small animals in their factories.
Mazie you are correct in your info. Not all MC COY is stamped, however it would usually have USA OR A circled c... they always had something on the bottom.
http://www.ebay.com/gds/All-McCoy-pottery-was-USA-made-not-all-USAs-are-McCoy-/10000000001354470/g.html Here is a site that explains McCoy markings. This company diversified to keep the doors opened. It blended with several other companies especially during the war. It did not mark all of its pieces because of that reason I suspect. You are correct on the USA ect. but we both learned from this experience because they did not always sign their wares. I was unsure as this piece has been with me for to many years to recall. However, I have always collected animals and thought this one was McCoy, I have not found it anywhere for this auction to share. Dumbfounded for sure! Blessings, it has been fun to research once again.
I have a set of bowls bought different antique stores but 2 have the name and the other 2 have USA AND co or c as well. But its the same style just different year if production.
I looked up Shawnee as I seemed to remember liking it as well. All pottery is cool to me. But could not find. Shawnee had a habit of painting the figures and this one is not painted. The eye was placed before baking. I am back to McCoy. Oh my what about California Pottery? Off again to check it out!
In 1911 J.W. McCoy Pottery Company was acquired by George Brush and it became the "Brush-McCoy Pottery Co." In 1918 the McCoy family sold their interest in Brush-McCoy however the name did not change the name until 1925 at which time it was simply called, Brush Pottery Co. Most of the early J.W. McCoy pottery, Brush McCoy, was not marked. Some items have only an impressed shape or number.
Yes, there will mold marks on the pieces. Wonderful Auction Mazie!!
Thanks Nancy! I really appreciate your expert information on this little girl. We were having quite a conversation as you see earlier. Blessings, Mazie
