On June 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Great Britain, initiating two years of intense fighting. British North American forces fought tenaciously to preserve the way of life of a future Canada. In recognition of their bravery, the Mint has created five circulation coins to commemorate these defining moments of the War of 1812.

The winner of this auction will receive two (2) Canadian 2012 twenty-five cent (quarter) ‘War of 1812 – Sir Isaac Brock’ commemorative coins, in brilliant uncirculated condition – one (1) each of the coloured and non-coloured versions.

The metal composition is nickel-plated steel; diameter: 23.88 mm; weight: 4.4 grams.

PLEASE NOTE – These coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition (freshly removed from a Mint roll) and you will receive the exact coins shown in the photographs. Coin easels NOT included.

I wasn't a fan of these coins initially, but I've grown to like them. I have all 9 coins in this set, with your help of course.

LOL - could be that whole burning down the White House in 1814 and/or the fact that, despite several efforts with superior forces, you guys were unsuccessful in invading us. :-)

Did I mention I have a couple of the special RCM holders for this series - it's pretty classy, holds all 9 coins and has a quick bio on each of the featured 'heroes'.

You did not ever mention the holders to me. We might have to work something out for it. I'd be nice to display them like that.

Number of times the US has attempted to invade Canada - 2. Number of times Canada has successfully defended itself - 2.

You know how much I love my neighbors to the north. It'd be nice to marry whoever I wanted or to be able to go to the hospital if I'm sick or to see the tragically hip on tour... among many other things.

Heeheehee - I love to tease. It's astonishing how many people don't know that the Brits burned down the White House (Canadians included). Though, in all fairness - if there is any in war - it was in direct response to the American burning of York. At least, that's what the historians tell us. ;-)

Never off topic...part of the point of these pieces is to convey history. And what better way than through discussion? (Okay, probably reading a real history book...but what better way on Listia?)
