Description

The listing, SOLID 22kt GOLD REPLICA STAMP "ALABAMA" has ended.

I bought this gold replica First Day Cover Alabama stamp in 2002. It has never been opened but has some small tears on the corners. I have pointed the tears out in pictures. It also comes with a paper stating the history of Alabama . Yes this is real gold not plated. I do not know the weight as again, never opened it. The stamp is approximately 1 inch by 2 inches.

The Postal Commemorative Society has been authorized by the United States Postal Service to recreate each important new stamp in gleaming 22 carat gold. The original image is painstakingly engraved on a die to capture every detail. The die is then used to make each breathtaking 22 karat gold stamp replica.

What exactly is a First Day Cover? A First Day Cover is a special limited edition commemorative envelope that bears both a US postage stamp and a unique first day of issue postmark .(This post mark is the official US Government guarantee of its limited edition status.) For each new US stamp, Postal Authorities designate a date of first issue and one US city (First Day City) that are important to the person, place or event being honored on the US stamp. For instance, the 2002 US Military Academy stamp was issued on March 16th 2002, the 200 anniversary of its founding. The first day city was West Point, New York- the site of the US Military Academy. The combination of the special commemorative envelope, the new US postage stamp, and the official first day of issue postmark together form a First Day Cover.

The first day of issue postmark identifies the gold stamp replica as a limited edition. That's one reason. Also, the actual stamp and its gold replica are perfect complements - actual stamp allows you to see how the gold stamp replica matches the original in every detail. What better way is there to capture the beauty and majesty of a new United States stamp then to reproduce it in gleaming 22 karat gold! Produced by the Postal Commemorative Society.

When did you buy them? As far as to my knowledge it is solid and paper thin. The papers that came with it says 22kt but does not say plated.
