This is a very cool pendant. I think the date is 1830 but not positive. Please look at all photo. Stamped Sterling and .925.

The very first miraculous medal was struck in 1830 and the one minted tomorrow will say 1830- but this looks to be an oldie and who knows-LoL maybe its from 1830!

Yes I agree!! This one does look older than a lot I've seen on here though!

The .925 stamp was adopted in 1908 and STER or STERLING was used before that. Since it has both marks it's more than likely from between the tears 1908 and 1915. That would make it a century old. It's a wonderful piece! Fanned and watching.

This is the front of a very popular Catholic medal, called the ... Miraculous Medals have been struck with the 1830 date for more than 150 years now, and are still ... of this "1830" medal doesn't mean the medal! The Miraculous Medal came about as a result of an apparition of Our Lady on November 27, 1830. It came through a humble novice, Sister Catherine Laboure, in the course of a vision in which Our Lady appeared to her and asked her to have a medal made. On the front of the medal, was to be a representation of herself as she appeared to the Sister on this day. The back was to carry, among other things, a picture of two hearts, the Sacred Heart with a crown of thorns around it and the Heart of Mary pierced by a sword. Do your homework.

You're welcome. Lol I meant between the "years" not "tears" :) I'm not Catholic and I still really want this! I'll be bidding if I can. I think this will go very high.

Mister know it all!! I just looked at a catalog that had every one of the religious medals made in it. This is a combination of a Mary medal, Jesus medal, Teacher, and traveler! I can't remember the exact saint associated with the last two but This is mine I know exactly what it is and what it is not. Its not associated with just one person.

Well you really need to do your homework as well because you are also wrong!! This is actually called a four way religious medal that is s combination of the different saint and lady religious medals. It has Mary at the bottom,Jesus at the top and two other saints on either side.

I hope this does not upset you but has thee entire piece been tested to be Sterling silver? Like if I won this and took it to a jeweler would they test it and tell me if it were real? I just don't want to bid a ton of credits on pewter, or any other medal.

I doubt very seriously this piece could be sterling on one part and another metal somewhere else. Its a solid piece. If it were tampered with(cut and soldered back together with a different material you would be able to tell especially with all the detail on front and back. I know the stamp(hallmark) is genuine as well. I would never list something as sterling or gold or whatever if I wasn't absolutely certain of its content. I understand your worries but you will get what's described!!!

Wow! Very cool piece. I don't think the weight or size matter at all. I think this one is going to go for more in credits than it's silver weight would alone would suggest. There are a LOT of people who collect this stuff, including me. Even though I'm not Catholic, my mom was, and I went to Catholic school through 8th grade, way back when blue collar people could afford that sort of thing. Now it costs more each month than my dad paid for a year! It was a great education. A lot of the teachers are Alumni of the school, always has been like that, and almost all the parents are very involved with the school. That makes a big difference. Anyway, I saw a lot of these when I was in school, 60's and 70s, it was common to carry or wear one, or something similar. I don't know if it still is. That's a cool old one though. F&W
