Questions & Comments
Someone is having a good laugh at the expense of the muppets bidding on this.....
Anyone can list anything at any price. That neither adds nor subtracts value from the item listed. It only means that the seller and the buyers don't know the true value if it is listed too low or too high. This is for free. No money is involved unless you buy your credits from Listia. The seller made no statement of the value of this. The seller did not indicate this to be anything other than what it is. If you want to learn to play the violin or have an interested child this seems to be a good place to start. You wouldn't be investing tons of money just to have the child or yourself lose interest in playing it later.
I did not intend for anyone to think this exact violin is worth $1,000. That is the insurance value of one in excellent condition. Sales value is about half of insurance value and in some cases less than half. A violin only in fair condition would be worth less of course. Again this is a free listing arena.
no I don't know much about violins or even head of stradiuarius for that matter but I think this is a good place for it.considering it's been collecting dust all these yrs and it was going in the yard sale until my 25yr old son knew lil about it. and my friend refereed lista
I don't understand all of the nasty remarks I am seeing! This is CeeNote47's auction if you don't believe it is a real auction and item don't bid!!! Just move on to the next auction. You don't know what people have in their homes! And your attitude probably causes you to miss many great deals! Good luck CeeNote47 !
It's a beautiful item, but restoration fees are massive for antique violins ! My sons viola cost only $1000 and when he had to get it just adjusted was expensive itself!
CEENOTE47 good luck on your listing. Truthfully no one knows the true value of this beautiful piece until they get it appraised. So don't listen to these people. If they want it they'll bid if not they won't. : )
Been in the antique business 40 years. The value of an item is worth what ever you can get for it.Take it to a dozen so called appraisers and you will get a dozen different values.lol Depends on how long you want to hold on to it.Less than hour before auction end.Lets see what happens next. Welcome to Listia,a fun place to buy and sell junk.
Thank you for your reply Ceenote47. Wow, this item sure gave you lots of traffic! lol Hey, I do want to apologize to you though. I inherited my mother's violin which is also in great shape except that it could use a nice cleaning and new strings. I tried getting that done but was very quickly turned down telling me that it would be far too expensive to mess with its natural beauty (?! :-/ ) which left me shaking my head. Anyway, I would never dream of selling hers, but that is me. I wish you Good luck!! Very cool item. To earthandy: That was a rude comment from you! Jmo To elainefwalker: thank you for the helpful information!
$1,000 you are dreaming I looked on Ebay and the price for one Identical to this is $20-$30 I doubt the winner will even get this as I see no response from the seller and he has a rating of 0
This way you understand this instrument has some value. Interesting listing. I hope the above helps everyone. The winner can still feel really good, because it comes with case and bow.
I copied this from an online appraiser just for everyones info: Expert: twinb1201 replied 3 years ago.
Hello, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I'll be pleased to help you with this question.
The label indicates that your violin was made in a workshop in Germany, probably in the town of Markneukirchen, after 1921. The phrase "Made in Germany" did not appear until then. It is a copy of a Stradivarius. These violins were turned out by several factories in the town, and they were made for export to the US. They are still considered to be good student instruments today.
If your violin is in excellent condition, its current retail (replacement or insurance) value is approximately $1,000. If you were to sell it, you could expect to get the fair market (private sale or auction) value of approximately half that amount.

Can you please provide more photos of the back, neck, case and label? What is the full label text? Also, do you have any appraisal information? I believe I know what I am looking at, but a few more photos and information would help. Thanks.
Your poor great grandma would probably be sick to see you offering this item. you should have this item appraised at an antique shop instead of offering it for bid here.
well up until I posted it's hanging out the basement of our family's house I'm 47 yrs old and it's been there for yrs I had forgot about it until started pulling things out for the yard sale .lol
