Description

The listing, Mock orange bush x 12+ seeds has ended.

I am offering 12+ seeds of my mock orange shrub.
Mock Orange, is an old-fashioned, fragrant, spring-blooming shrub. It’s large, easy-to-grow and produces thousands of blooms that smell like orange blossoms, hence the name. Clusters of white flowers, single or double, one to two inches in diameter, appear in June. Their branches or stems are long and grow mostly from the base of the plant. The shrubs require little maintenance, It flowers freely and basically is undemanding. Blossoms are pure white. The seeds need to be stratified. You will have to keep them in the refrigerator in a sterile medium like peat moss in a plastic bag for a few weeks. Add a little water, but avoid making the soil mix soggy. Make a gritty, well-drained potting soil by combining compost and sand. Add a slow-release fertilizer and some water to produce a moist, but not soggy soil. Plant seeds about one-half-inch deep in the potting mixture. Wait until the seedlings develop true leaves. Then place in a shady area and keep moist. Repot when the seedlings have more than doubled in size. Mock orange grows in U.S. zones 8 through 11. Plants grow up to about 12 feet tall and 12 feet wide and feature fragrant white flowers in spring.
Place the pots in a window that receives full sun, or at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. Temperatures should be about 70 degrees Fahrenheit for best germination. Water the pot as needed to keep the potting soil moist, but not wet. Thin the seedlings when they develop two healthy leaf sets, leaving only the strongest, healthiest of the two plants. Sowing two seeds in each pot helps ensure that at least one plant will grow in each container. Plant in a site that receives full sun and has good drainage.
