Ty Jay! I worked near the oyster bar from 1990-1992 racing seasons and Church Hill Downs in the clubhouse from 1990-1994 when my daughter was born. My mom loved her "vacations" working Oaks Day and Derby Day! She's deceased as well and most of the wonderful ladies who taught me what I knew. My mom's side of the family were 3 generations HSNP residents. Wish it were more like it was back 30 years ago. : (

There is a lot to say for "modern day" life, and a lot of not so nice things to remember in the past, but I still think we were better off years ago when everything is weighed out. I enjoy electricity, water in the house, cars, etc. but some of the other things I would almost like to see get out of my life. Ok, enough old age experience showing up. I still enjoy what life I am living, but.......

Looks amazing! My parents were from Hot Springs Natural Park. Loved visiting! Had my first job at Oaklawn Jockey Club as a mutuel clerk. :)

I worked mutuels also, started in 1973, qualified for full-time in 1975 the Friday of derby day week. Got that big raise and did go full time in 1976. Switched to the summer telecasts and then gave it up......became a real job and we did not have the time to visit between races as we did when we were just a 50 day (later 55) race meet. But I made some good friends there, especially working the Terrace. Many of whom are now deceased. Glad to hear from any HSNP resident/visitor. Will fan you, just so you have another one!!!! Jay

Betting you knew my mom's parents. Paul And Ordel Pattison? He was a Ret Col who went into Realestate and my gran worked at the Kmart for years till the 80's. They lived on Harvard St in a pretty home with the white picket fence and all and besides Ruby and Joe Dozey who lived across the street, had the best garden/orchard in town. He did tons of woodwork and was really creative. Racing season was their fun time. Back then I was allowed to go to the races. I was 8-9 years old when I was introduced to Pat Day. He put on a Pony and led around for a few min. Had me hooked for life! Lol! It's been wonderful to speak with you Jay! Hugs!

Don't bid any higher on the recipe. Several times it has gone for a large number of credits. I will happily send you a freebie if your present bid does not win. Also, do you like chili? I have, supposedly, the recipes for the WORLD FAMOUS chili(s) of Hot Springs. If you like chili and don't have the recipes, will gladly send them along also. I am a real chef, the canned/frozen foods type. I have over 4,000 hardcover cookbooks and rarely open any of them. I don't have time to really cook, and most of the canned and frozen stuff today tastes fine to me, although sometimes I just have to have that taste that I get from using one of Mother's or Gran's recipes!!!
