Up for your consideration is a Brother Multi-Function Unit (MFC-490CW). This is a very nice printer that I've had a little over a year. It was barely used and still looks like new.

The problem is that the black ink stopped printing. I have used the printer's cleaning function (pictured) many times to no avail. I have also shown a photo of what results when you try to print black.

Someone who knows something about these things will have a very nice WIRELESS printer. I do not have the manual or software, but both are available online via the Brother website. I recently had the inks refilled at Cartridge World (never again BTW, what a rip off) so you will be able to print right away when you receive the unit.

The specification are available on the Brother website. This unit can print, fax, copy, scan, has memory card slots, and did I mention it's wireless! I have not tried to call Brother and take advantage of the warranty (1 year). So if you get this printer and it's an easy fix, PLEASE DON'T TELL ME, lol!

all you half to do is replace the black ink cart with one that is for the printer not a off brand one that will fix problem i had same problem with my printer and did that and it works fine

I hope that is all it is. Someone will get a fantastic printer for nothing! I can't be sure as I replaced it with a refilled cartridge.

I definitely wouldn't get them from a refill store. You can get them online for like $10 or $20 for all of them. That's what I would do, I just didn't have time this last time.

have you got a new black ink and tried that? sometimes the refills do not work, it happen to my lexmark one bought new black and started printing

It stopped working before I got the ink cartridges refilled. Well actually what they do at Cartridge World is when you bring in your old cartridges, they just hand you some new ones. I know that one of the colors wasn't available so I had to wait for it to be refilled, but I have NO idea which one it is.

lexmark is the worst about refilled cartridges. had a lexmark and threw it away because i like to fill my own cartridges a few times at least. i don't know about the brother but it would be my guess that you have to get a new cartridge from them each time it runs out like the lexmark. just guessing on that though.

I don't know about that. I have used refilled cartridges in it before and everything worked just fine. Yeah my grandma had a Lexmark and she chucked it too!

i have the MFC665-CW. these are fantastic printers.

Yeah I barely used this printer so I don't know what happened! I won another MFC off of here, so you know I love the quality (when they work!)

I have 3 different Brother MFC, the problem is that the Print Heads go out on them after about a year. I do have the 2 packages of ink for them. So who ever wins this printer I will give them the ink for it. Good luck and I hope you don't have the same issue that I have with mine.

Can they be repaired? Like I said, I have no clue what is wrong with this one... But that certainly could be a possibility.

My old Lexmark did the same thing once, took the ink cartridge to have it refilled and it either got stopped up or it caused the printer to mess up.(hat was the cheapest place in town at the time.) That is why most all Walgreens don't refill Lexmark cartridges anymore. So do you think maybe something got into the nozzle and stopped it up? FYI

It stopped working BEFORE I changed the cartridge. I tried the clean thing, to no avail. Then I had them all replaced at Cartridge World thinking that could be the issue, but still the black doesn't work. I've printed a few things and black never works. I used to go to Walgreens, but my Walgreens stopped refiling them all together.
