F&W. I never knew there were so many colors of milkweed. We have some that are pink and smell great! I know about the monarchs too, we get them every year! Good luck.

i made a net cage for about 12 butterflies my daughter and i released on thanksgiving day in celebration of thanks. check to see if you have wasps in the area-they are the worst for the catapillars-breakfast lunch, dinner and in between meal snacks!.I HATE WASPSdo you have atractant plants? black eyed susan flowers(not the vine) and many others will attract the the butterflys, but they only lay eggs on the milkweed. to learn more go to www.monarchwatch.org :)

THanks so much. we have tons of black eyed susans , some kind of fluffy purple flowers , tons of the sumac that has red berries not the poison kind milkweed wild turnips , and a huge amount of other wildflowers we do have a huge number of diffrent species of birds we are on the edge of a migratory wetland it is amazing we even had loons for the first time last year. well thanks anyway i am going to check out the site you reccomended and we really dont have many wasps

when the flower heads are spent and you dead head them, the seeds will be in the center-they should be dried in the head, then with your fingers, just brush them gently with your fingers and they should easily fall out. what can i trade? :) leslee

my home garden is a little tired as my focus since last sept has been a Butterfly Garden at my daughters school. it started as a 'renagade' garden club(me!) and now has turned into science lessons, nature studies, art and the preschoolers squeeeel seeing the caterpillars---we now have 12 2nd generation caterpillers chomping away at the milkweed...i seriously dont know who is having more fun, me or the kids!
