This was inspired by a photo of a running Gypsy Vanner. I love that breed of horse--and for some reason they have all this wonderful hair and beard to deal with.

This picture is freehand on 5 inch by 7 inch handmade paper. My son is 13 and makes paper for me to paint on. This painting is done with oil pastels. The only ink is for my signature. There are no oil pencils used--just the stick pastels.

The paper is from recycled materials--such as medical supply kits (I'm a nurse), tissue paper, 1/4 cup cotton rag, and acid free additive. I love how this came out with the rough edges. It looks almost like a cave-painting in a way.

The leather background is just what I used on the scanning bed. It's not for sale with the picture.

Keep in mind oil pastels can smear if you press on it and smudge. It's advised you don't. There is no frame with this picture!!!
