I am so computer illiterate and am setting up internet service at my home. Is this what I would need to set up with the modem to have wireless or is this the modem? I am sorry if this is a stupid question.

I personally believe that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. How else are you supposed to learn about things?

A router is used to hook up multiple devices to your modem. The modem is provided by your ISP. (Internet Service Provider) Some modems now already have Wi-Fi capabilities, meaning that you don't need a router to set up a network in your home. This router not only has wi-fi capabilities it also has 4 ports for hard-wiring your devices. It comes with 3 cords, one to hook it up to your modem and 2 to hook up devices with a wire. It also comes with software to install the programs and drivers your devices need in order to use it as well as a one page quick installation guide. It is an "n" type router which is the one that provides the fastest speed for your devices.

All that said, my recommendation if you aren't familiar with setting up a network is that it is worth the money to pay someone to come in and do it for you. Most of these guys are willing to explain how things work. The person that installs your modem may be willing to help you set it up. I have found that acting helpless, asking a lot of "dumb" questions and fluttering your eyelashes a lot will usually motivate them to do so. That said, if you are able to understand how to hook up devices like games and vcr's to your television you can probably figure it out though if memory serves I had trouble hooking in peripheral devices like my printer. This router has a button on top that allows your devices to find it.

I hope that answers all your questions! Like I said, it's easiest just to pay someone to do it. I don't know the cost of that as my ego won't allow me to ask for help, I can figure it out myself! Most are eager to show off how much they know, uh, I mean to tell you how things work. If you find a good guy, hang onto his phone number! Let's face it, not everyone can know everything which is why people go to school and learn about specialized skills!

I do have the software (CD) and a one page installation guide. Sometimes I am smart enough to create a file and put these things in it right away!
