Description: Most people think of dandelions as those annoying weeds that invade our lawns every spring, summer and fall. However, many people eat dandelion greens and flowers. Garden retailers are now selling dandelion seeds to grow for a tasty addition to any salad.

How to grow:
Dandelion requires a long growing season and develops best at low temperatures. Sow seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in May to early summer and thin seedlings to 8 to 12 inches apart in the row. The plants form a rosette of leaves and overwinter in the garden. They will grow in any well-drained garden soil. A polyethylene tunnel can be placed over the row to force growth for late winter or early spring cutting. Dandelions can be grown in the garden and should be treated similar to lettuce. If grown for a fall crop it should be planted in mid-summer. Dandelion is a perennial and can become a problem in gardens if allowed to grow unchecked.

Glad to hear others feel like I do. I just spent several minutes with my "puller" yanking up some this afternoon. And yesterday afternoon. And almost every afternoon for a couple of weeks. They come up nicely, roots and all; maybe I should list some on Listia. They aren't through with me yet. Pull four today, find six tomorrow.

This is worse than selling pet rocks. Sure the flowers are pretty, and frankly I've eaten stranger things, but when the flowers are gone the grass is covered with UGLY broadleaf weeds you can see from space. It's like lawn herpes, and when your neighbors get infected they will be out for blood.

omg if the auction isn't for you shut your mouth and move on. anyone in touch with natural medicine and easy to grow food supplies knows the jellies teas chips and salads from there flowers are great. plus the definition of a "weed" is just a plant growing out of place. dandelion root is used for medicinal purposes. y'all are just incredibly rude. I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy it if tons of folks came and posted comments on your items calling them worthless and stupid.

They were brought to the USA as a food crop. If you keep the heads off of them then they can't spread. :)

OK, Gang, I hate to eat my words, but I just "met" the nicest lister who swears that the jelly made from these nasty creatures is unbelievably good. And to prove it, he has posted his recipe (and one for violet jelly) on Listia. So maybe we are the ones with our heads in the sand??? I am not planting any in my yard; my family would disinherit me. But I may go around the neighborhood gathering up enough to try the recipe..(Maybe I can charge the neighbors for clearing their lawns of these nasty things and make jelly at the same time???) Dare you to join me in bidding on the recipes; may the best bidder win.

I see they grow in Hong Kong also, who would think they grew in the Far East? They travel quick and rampant.

They are full of vitamins and minerals. They make a wonderful spring time salad or cooked greens. My parents always picked them and cooked them for a spring tonic. During hard times people would eat them when there was nothing else.

My yard is full of them and I like it that way. Brew some to make wine.

No they wouldn't hm2013! I live here in SC and fight those darn things every morning! I would be able to rid my yard but the neighbors don't care and let theirs go to seed and they fly like an eagle to my yard!!!!!!!!!!! Can't stand them and don't understand how anyone would bid on this! Beyond ME!!!
