It can curl, straighten, flip, you name it! It's just like brushing your hair into your favorite style! If you have extremely stubborn hair that needs a lot of heat to be styled then you can use it without the scalp protector and trust me, it will work! If you only need a little heat you can turn it down and use the scalp protector. Just as a side note: No matter what type of hair styling/heating product you use, remember never to leave it in/on your hair for too long because excessive heat is damaging to the hair.
