I like to give my plants a good feeding of manure tea ever other week. They love it. We have very sandy soil here in southern California and can never add enough fertilizer or compost.

Nope. Manure tea ie Compost tea.. I take a large trash plastic trash can, put 1/4 cow manure in it and fill it to the top with water. You need to stur the 'pot' every day. It's the best nitrogen you'll ever feed your plants. Replenish the water used. Try to make an effor on sturring daily but, not neccessray. Don't cover the barrel and don't mind if bugs or leaves fall into the container. It's the best way of adding nitrogen and nutrients that you can only get from organic compost. You'll extend the life of your plants, particularly veggie plants! The size and colour of the veggies are outstanding as well. You can strain the tea with a gauze fabric but, it's not neccessary. If you choose to use it in a spray bottle to spray plants, you'll then need to strain the organic tea as so bits don't wind up in the tubing. Manure tea is so easy to make, easy to contain and most beneficial. You can buy a bag of great compost or true cow/deer manure and you can get 100x the use than just mixing the manure into the ground. Alot of people will tell you that you need to add air tubes from a fish tank pump to add air to the container for proper nitrogen levels.. that's not true. Just a good stur will do, bringing the contents from the bottom to the top. Keep a bucket just for putting the tea in for feeding your plants. I have an old red wagon that I tote my bucket around with and an old coffee can to dip into the bucket. No frills here. Manure tea is perfect for folks who don't have the room to keep a compost pile or heep of cow dung. If you're going to use the compost tea in a spray bottle, be sure to now spray the veggies or fruit directly. Only the leaves.

Here's an easy breezy directions on how to make manure tea/compost tea.

I should mention that there's two types of compost tea.. brewed or steaped. I make the steaped method. Brewed tea is where you need heat, tubing, air etc.
