iN 1980 THE NYC transit authority decided to close the lettering on the subway token and the "Closed Token" was born with the 'NYC' letters filled in as where they had been like slots in this token for years.
In 1980 you ride up to 37 miles one way across the city,through all 5 boroghs....for 50 cents.
Not to say that during this ride you were, and are free to STAY IN THE SYSTEM for as long as you wish,riding to anywhere in this massive 5,000 mile transit megopolis!

This token is about the size of a USA quarter.


Exactly as shown.mounted in a 2 inch x 2 inch cardboard protective holder as are all of my coins.
