This is a wonderful toy for any child.It does take AA batteries which does not come with batteries. The buttons are a little worn but still can tell who is on the keys and is a wonderful toy. There is no ear piece you push the buttons and they light up and talk to you.The character you push is who talks.

There is no ear piece, it is just push the buttons and it talks to you and it does light up the buttons do .
