83 year old Eddie (Voight) works as the head of Maintenance at the Ruby Pier amusement park. One of the rides malfunctions and Eddie dies while trying to save a little girl. From that point, Eddie begins his trip through heaven where he meets 5 people that have played a part in Eddie's life. From each person, he learns a lesson. He realizes the impact that he has had on the world around him.

Like Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, this movie reminds us of what really matters in life.
