Description

The listing, Authentic 1920's Antique Vaseline Czech Glass Snowflake Button has ended.

This listing is for one antique Czech glass Vaseline or Uranium Glass shank back button. It was made in Northern Bohemia in the 1920's. I bought a large lot of these custard yellow Czech glass buttons and decided to share one of them with my fellow listian's. It has a very nice snow flake geometric design. As old as this button is expect there to be slight manufacturing imperfections, as the process for making them was not an exact science 100 years ago. There are no chips, flea bites, cracks, or any other man made damage to the button. As you can see from the first photo it glows or fluoresces quite well under a black light. I personally use antique and vintage buttons when I make clothing, jewelry, and other accessories. I also sell antique/vintage buttons and other supplies to other designers to use in their designs on my online store. I also took the pictures of this before I rinsed it off with water. I am open to a fair GIN offer, keep in mind the lowest you can do a GIN for is 2200 credits. Please send me a private message before there are any bids if you are interested in a GIN. The penny in the photo was used for a quick size reference and is not included. Shipping on this item and this item only is free via USPS first class with tracking! I do offer free shipping on small items whenever I can. I do combine shipping and I ship once a week. All of my items are sold as is and are accurately described! If you have any questions please ask them before placing a bid. I do not refund credits for buyer's remorse so be responsible and be sure you really want this before bidding. This item comes from a smoke free and pet friendly (dog and cat) home. I follow all of listia's rules and policies so be sure you know what they are and are prepared to follow them as well. All rude comments will be flagged and users leaving them will be blocked. Be sure to fan me for upcoming auctions. Happy Bidding!

Uranium bangles? I have never run across one of those! I guess I never really looked though! My basement looks like I ransacked a 1940s glass factory with 50% of it being uranium, vaseline, jadeite, and Fiesta Radioactive red. There's just something exciting about collecting such a taboo element!

I understand that 100%. On top of that I just like stuff that glows and pretty much anything most people would call "weird" "strange" ect. ect. I only for the first time last month came across uranium bangles in person that I could purchase. I had seen them for sale online though long before that and I actually just purchased some online and got them in the mail. I figured out a long time ago that some of the old glass paste rhinestones are uranium as well and then started buying vintage uranium glass jewelry to add to my collection of glass items (and to wear). I re-use the broken uranium jewelry that isn't wearable as is when I come across it. The fiesta is cool too. In case you didn't know some amberina and red glass glows as well as it contains a mineral for the coloring process that glows. Old clear flint glass glows slightly as well. Old cobalt glass glows purple. I have an old cobalt eye cup that was in the family that glows. Those items are not as exciting as the uranium but they compliment uranium glass nicely when displayed with it. I carry a portable mini black light with me everywhere I go, just in case I stop at a yard sale or thrift store. ;)

Thanks! I don't come across buttons as often as I do old vaseline/uranium rhinestone jewelry or glassware. Did come across some Vaseline/uranium bangles recently and purchased those. I have some old uranium/vaseline beads as well. May list some here as I have more than I can use. I am not surprised you found my auction and also placed a bid. Your shop would be full of my type of antiques I am sure. ;)

Ha! I was just going to write you about the orange glass! Manganese infused into the glass is what causes the reaction. Old bottles were made with manganese until world war 1. Germany was the source of the stuff so when the crap hit the fan America obviously stopped getting their supply and moved on to other glass making products. My wife actually just grabbed a manganese laden bread tray at an antique store two days ago. Blenko Glass Co made some pretty rad ashtrays out of the stuff if you like 60s retroware! Another good source of unnoticed uranium glass is authentic Murano pieces. They are normally way too expensive unless you find them at a sale and usually don't have a green or yellow tinge to them! And for that reason I too carry a 21 led black light flashlight around!

*grins* Yea I knew the mineral was manganese I was just too lazy to figure out how to spell it correctly. I saw a beautiful old Murano uranium glass lamp for sale on ebay once. It was blue and green swirled and yes it was very expensive, seller had a bl picture to prove it glowed. I am aware of the Blenko stuff. Houze glass, which is also sometimes lumped into the slag glass category on sites like ebay, usually is uranium as well. My Mom has several Houze glass lamps from the 1930's that glow as well as an electric mougal floor lamp (takes an arch bulb) from the early late 1800's - early 1900's with uranium accents in the base and stem. We had killer auction houses down here five years or so ago and my whole family used to get great stuff at them really cheap. I ended up with Dali lithos and a variety of vintage jewelry, hats and purses as well as some odds and ends. Only one of them is still in business and stuff isn't so cheap anymore. But yes I use an LED bl key chain and it works great, it is also inconspicuous and I am so well versed in uranium, I rarely need it to know if something is or isn't anyway. Everyone and their damn brother and sister wants to flip antiques/vintage here in south FL so being inconspicuous is important. Fenton also made a lot of uranium, stuff. I have several antique and vintage Fenton pieces that are uranium.

My wife and I were out hitting a thrift store today when she showed me something depressing! There was an entire dinner set of green cherry blossom depression glass marked at $75! The crappy thing is they didn't glow. Total repro land :( We also found a uranium clover design candy dish with lid for 18. I'd be willing to pay the price but it looked like someone fired off a few rounds from a .9mm at it! Massive chipping to the lid and base and this was at an estate sale! Wtf! Oh also you said you sell online?

Repro city is always depressing and yea I have learned not to buy aythng with chips unless I am buying it for personal use. I do sell online. I can send you a private message with the link to my etsy shop. Listia doesn't allow external links to be posted anywhere near an auction.

Look up the seller "black light world" on eBay under advanced search. I believe they also have a normal website. That's where I obtained my vaseline marbles. They're not old but I think I paid $15 for eight and they came in a plastic compartmented holder.

I know that was directed at the guy who asked about marbles, but the tiny little one next to comments with out a reply was bothering me so reply made. I am terrible about things like that sometimes.

I have 2 houze table lamps! I've been looking at their old slag table top lighters but I can't decide if I want to drop $60-80 or continue trying to find one for cheap at an estate sale. My main "holy grail quest" is a uranium carriage vase with no damage. I can find them with chips but that's not what I need for the collection! Also I've had the hardest time finding a sunkist reamer without damage.

Ha! Awesome, so you all ready knew about houze. I am not surprised. I came across a houze ashtray with an elephant, trunk complete, (most of the time they are broken) for $10 at a thrift store. I sold it and I sold it way too cheap for $30. Kind of have sellers remorse on that, along with some other things. The carriage vases are awesome and I had to look that up because I wasn't familiar with them. Makes sense that they are often chipped though being what they are. It makes sense for the reamers as well. I am lucky if I find anything from the 20's let alone anything older than that here in south FL. So those carriage vases I'd never find them here. Oldest thing I came across glass wise was a pair of pressed glass green opalescent goblets from the late 1800's, and they sold online in a matter of days for $65 each. Serious sellers remorse, only I didn't sell them my Mom did as she bought them, I just found them. I got a a percentage for a finders fee but serious sellers remorse I should have bought them they were so cheap, oh well. Oh and came across an old Fenton perfume bottle that is Vaseline in an auction lot and it is from 1910 I think but my Mom has that, the lot of perfume bottles went more than I wanted to spend. She was also into glass before I was, I got into it after she did. I started flipping and collecting for myself with vintage/antique jewelry and purses. One of my holy grails for glass is a houze suicide knob and car ash tray set. They come up for sale on ebay and go anywhere between $40-$80. I plan to own a classic car by the time I am 40. I want several classic cars actually and I have seen rat rods from the 30's for sale down here for as low as 5,000. Which that low I could afford one before I am 40 and the houze set would fit perfect with. Of course selling for 5,000 could mean it needs 7,000 worth of engine work even if the body is fine. My 70's Camero will not be nearly that cheap and I will be closer to 45 or so maybe before I can own one. ;)

That would be great! I'll counter that with my ebay store! I usually have about 100+ items up but I've been revamping and working on studying jewelry to cut back on inventory space!

Oh you too huh? This seems to be a common theme among people I meet in the industry whether they are dealing, collecting, or both. Collectors just have a lack of display space usually, but for people like me who do both, inventory space is an issue too. LOL. :P
