A lot of people ask me what a starter Reborn is?
A starter reborn is a childs play doll that was painted using reborn air dry paints and weighted with safer items then fine glass beads. This reborn is not safe around children under 3 because they could rip the doll apart and eat or choke the polly pellets & fancy stones encased in stuffing, in the head and body. Plastic pellets are also weighted in the 1/4 size limbs. Parents use starter reborns to see how their children will take care of the baby before they spend hundreds on a real reborn. It is the safer and cheaper way to go. You really have to use a lot of strength to rip the head off so this doll is pretty safe for light play. After I weighted limbs and head I sealed it with hot glue.

It's painted in several layers of paint including veining, flesh color, warm blushing, dark blushing on cheeks, nose, eye lids, bottoms of feet and hands and finger and toe joints, darker nail and lip color, off white nail tipping, creases painted, gloss look on nails, lips, nostrils and eye edges. I couldn't root the head because it was to thick and hard. He/ she has a new brown, short haired wig glued (see pict. -a little shorter than I wanted but lifelife looking). Baby is cute as a boy or girl and has 1 magnet at the side of the head for mag. bow. It takes real pacifiers with the tip snipped. Baby has 4 teeth 2-top, 2 bottom, and brown eyes. The cloth body is not jointed but very huggable.

Baby will come with 0-3 m. size shirt & pants it's wearing, a hair bow, paci.,& hospital band with her reborn info. on.

Ok I am hooked, but I would love to have a small baby girl without the wig. they are all beautiful. I have created many porcelain dolls many years ago. I even created one who looked just like my four year old daughter the year she won Little Miss Danville. There was only one made and the Museum tried to get me to donate. I opted out and my now 35 year old daughter has her. Your work is great. I fanned you.

Thank you! I will root the head whenever I can. The material has to be soft and thin enough for the tiny needle to go through. I do have an Ashton drake baby girl I listed on Listia. She has hand rooted hair. I just ordered more used doll clothes on here so I do want to make and list more starter reborns on here and once in a while a real reborn baby:)

Great idea! I will add more picts. today. The body was washed in the washer with Tide, but there are a few marks on the cloth that wouldn't come out. You can't see it with the clothes off. The head and limbs were stripped of the paint with acetone and washed right away with baby shampoo.

Berenguer dolls are vinyl, right? What is done to make it a reborn doll? Has this doll had it done?

I don't have a reborn doll but have been wanting one. I thought they are all of cloth painted and eyelashes & hair added.

No, not all berenguer dolls are vinyl. Some of these dolls are full body and others have soft cloth bodies to make them more hugable:) It takes a lot of work to reborn. I stripped all of the factory paint using acetone, then it's washed in baby shampoo, special reborn paint is mixed to look like colored water and each layer of paint is applied and each layer must be dried before putting another layer on...veining, then skin flesh (about 3 layers), warm blush molting, darker blushing, lips and nails, creases, gloss. The last step I do is seal the starter reborn using heat varnish and a heat gun. There are 2 diff. reborns a real reborn made from a blank reborn doll kit and a reborn stater which is made from a childs play doll. Starters are safer around kids but I've had a lot of adults who collect them also. Reborns look and have the weight similar to a real newborn. So they are painted to look more real and weighted. The hair and lashes doen't matter because some babies are bald. Some people use wigs instead of rooting hair so that's fine also. I try to root whenever I can but if the head is to hard I use a new, high quality wig and the wigs cost about 15-$25.00 (the lowest prices I could find). Hope this helps:)

Thanks for all the information. I see the advertisements from Ashton Drake Galleries. Real looking babies! I want one that I can put in an antique baby cradle. I have my sons sweater set given him when he was born. It's beautiful and white for girl or boy. If I could get one here with the credits I've been saving up would be great.

I've had Ashton drake and real reborns. Real reborns look better than Ashton drake. The Ashton Drake look good in Ad's until you get them in the mail. I ordered a new one about 4 years ago and was very upset when I opened the box and found it looked very fake and looked like it was spray painted by a machine. I sent mine back. I now buy a few Ashton Drake dolls for about $75.00-$100.00 used and I strip the paint and repaint and reroot it. I love the soft, squishy feel but they don't do a very good paint job. Someone on here just sold an 11 in. Ashton Drake doll today for +30,000 credits and she also repainted and reborned the doll. Ashton Drake dolls can look very good if they are reborned.

Thanks for adding photos. I wish some of the other sellers would do the same. Without pictures of a nude body I wouldn't bid much if at all. If they don't show a naked doll it makes me feel they're hiding something. So thank you for showing all.

I have some of these same sort of dolls I bought years ago but never thought of reborning them. This is a new concept to me. Cool idea!

I can make real reborns and you can pick open eyed or closed eyed, eye color and the hair color. I can't make a baby to look like a real baby because it takes a lot more time and I'm a bit of a perfectionist:) $200.00 though paypal. I buy reborn starter parts on Ebay mostly. The head was bought by itself for $20.00 a year ago. It was bald and I stripped the paint. I just thought it was so cute! The wig was purchased brand new for $25.00. If I have to use a wig I usually use Kemper or Monique because they have the doll wigs that look like young children. I couldn't find a cute and large enough body until a friend of mine who also reborns emailed me wanting to trade me a few of my clay babies for a body and limbs, she had no use for. It worked out great! I stripped the paint from the limbs and repainted it to match the paint I used on the head. It's hard to match paint since I mix a lot of my own to try new things.
