When I acquired this fabric I thought it was felt. I have washed and dried it twice...once by machine; and then washed once by hand in boiling water followed by an ice water rinse. The water became a beautiful plum color. Too bad I didn't have anything on hand that I wanted to dye! Anyway, this piece shrank to about half the original size, and is now a lot thicker. So, maybe it is wool felt? It smells like wool when it's wet, but not so much dry. As you can see in the photos the edges are wavy.

Has several holes along the edges where it was probably tacked up.
