1992 Bowman was a landmark set, where Bowman (owned by Topps) upgraded it's product to full color fronts and backs with UV coating, much alike their Stadium Club line of cards, as well as being the first true prospect driven major factory set. 1992 is the reason that Bowman became known as "The Home of the Rookie Card".
The thing that makes this set particularly desirable was its small production run. The cards were made-to-order, and many shop owners simply never ordered the product due to it's elevated box cost.
The result is a set which, despite being released in the middle of the "junk era", is tough to come by and maintains high values for individual cards. Even the commons list at 50 cent each, a real anomaly among early 1990s product.
