The listing, 1935 to 1945 WW II era vintage COLORADO state RETAIL SALES TAX TOKEN coin 2 mill Aluminum Tin has ended.
Offered is another original 7/8" World War II era retail sales tax token of 2 mills issued by the state of Colorado tax authorities.
Both sides are shown. Interestingly, each side is upside down from the other as shown in my digital photos.
It appears to be made of lightweight tin or aluminum.
This coin like numbered 2 sales tax token was used as change during consumer transactions in Colorado. (Similar tokens were used in Oklahoma, Utah and other states.)
Colorado had a 2 percent sales tax from 1935 until 1945. These 2 mill tokens were used when tax was less than a penny, for example a sale or portion of a sale item was 49 cents or less
The tokens were typically issued in aluminum, plastic or paper mucilage.
It reads COLORADO RETAIL TOKEN SALES TAX on each side with the number 2 at 3 and 9 o'clock. This one has seen use as it has some dings and wear as shown, however, that also indicates historic use.
If you are really interested, there is even an American Tax Token Society ATTS and website.
