Description

The listing, Franklin Mint - Solid Bronze Collector's Coins 1838 - 1839 has ended.

This set is from Franklin MInt, and is 200 coins. (Presently, there are 197....3 seem to have disappeared. Missing are 1786-1798-1815) They cover a period of 200 years of US History. One coin per year, from 1776 to 1975.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING!
These were offered to members of the Franklin Mint Collectors Society. This is how they were offered..2 coins per month, for $19.95 + shipping and handling, for a total of $25.50 per month. They would NOT send more than the 2 per month, so it took EIGHT years and 4 months for me to get them all. They stopped making them with the last issue of 1974-1975. That was it! I also bought the solid wood case, as well as the storage cards. There are 10 cards, and each holds 20 years. All together...and this makes me cry now....I invested over $2500 in the whole thing. Crazy? Yes! BUT, being the diehard collector that I am (was), and the fact I am a true lover of American history...well....I just HAD to have them, and I've REALLY enjoyed having them around. They are thick, heavy, solid bronze, 1 3/4" in diameter. EXTREMELY well made! The edges are etched FRANKLIN MINT SOLID BRONZE!
Here we go.....The next 2 coins offered here are...1838 and 1839. From here, I'll be listing on a regular basis, two coins at a time. It certainly won't take EIGHT YEARS! The wood box and the cards are NOT included. This whole thing weighs over 32 pounds. So....what you will get is the TWO coins named in this auction. Each coin is in a clear plastic coin holder.
Why is old Doodlebug getting rid of these? As I approach the "bucket kicking" portion of my life, I want to try to let someone have these that can appreciate them. My "caring" relatives will sell these suckers at a yard sale for $5. I'm NOT going to let that happen!
The great majority of the coins have never been handled. Some have. The kids and grandkids have messed with a few, but no damage was done. Some have some tarnish from age. That can easily be polished off.
