Description

The listing, Antique Forbidden Stitch Chinese Embroidery has ended.

This beautiful Antique Chinese Embroidered Panel has 4 Bats in the Forbidden Stitch and 2 large Peonies. It is 20 3/4" x 10 3/4" and it fairly good condition considering it's age , which could be 1890's or even older(I am not an expert). It is made of very fine silk which was spun by silkworms, collected, dyed and handmade into these beautiful pieces, I will be posting a few others, too , from my collection. These are not modern pieces , these are the old originals. I will consider a GIN as long as no bids have been placed . I am posting this in sections, then I will add full photos. There is a stain about 1 "x1" but I wouldn't dare clean it, it should be done professionally or leave it alone. There are a few threads that could also be snipped or better yet, sewn down, but I'm not touching it as I am not qualified to do this And I don't want to ruin it's value. Some of these panels are "Badges" and I know can be extremely valuable. I cannot say if this one is or not. I believe usually there is one central animal in the Badges. If you have information I would love to know! But I believe these panels were meant to be sewn into silk robes. These are highly collectible, and will only be more collectible with time. (And the Chinese are now buying many of these pieces back! With a Billion Chinese it's a rapidly growing market! This is a good investment!). These can be framed for hanging as decoration , I recommend not putting them in direct sunlight. though the colors have held for decades, in some cases , centuries, it's still a good idea to either rotate them , or avoid direct sunlight altogether.I would also recommend using Archival framing (it's always a good idea for anything of great value). What does forbidden stitch mean?

I've heard that it was forbidden ,because even young girls were going blind doing this stitch , I don't know if it is really true, but I am guessing maybe not because , at least in this case it isn't really, really tiny! (I have seen some truly miniscule embroidery , made for jewelry like pins. ).
