This herb tastes similar to cilantro and is used in Mexican cooking. The plant grows in a columnar shape, about 1.5 feet (45 cm) wide by 6 feet (145 cm) tall. In temperate climates, the plant will be shorter — it only reaches that height in heat. Leaves are 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) long, slightly oval in shape with round scalloped edges. The leaves have large, dark pores on them — don’t mistake them for bugs or fungus. The pores release the oil that gives the leaves their distinctive flavor. Flowers are bronze or purple.
The leaves are usually eaten raw, either whole or chopped, much like cilantro.
