Description

The listing, (LAST CHANCE!) Yellow Angel Trumpet ROOTED Cutting has ended.

This auction is for a 5 inch rooted cutting. It is the very last one I have until next season, but it is a beautiful plant. So good luck and happy bidding. :)

The Angel Trumpet is a fast growing plant (up to 10 feet) and can be grown in the ground or a large pot and are easily shaped to a manageable size by pruning. This plant has show-stopping large (some are 20 inches long) trumpet-shaped yellow flowers. These flowers are fragrant. Sometimes they have a light lemony scent, and are quite fragrant in the evening. With proper care, the Angel Trumpet can bloom from June through November.

If you can see yourself sitting on the patio on a summer or autumn night drinking in the lovely scent of tropical flowers then an Angel's Trumpet is the plant for your garden.

They do belong to the Solanaceae or nightshade family which includes mandrake and belladonna but also the familiar potato, tomato, tobacco and eggplant. All parts of the Angel's Trumpet are highly toxic and may be fatal if ingested.

Do you know the hardiness zones?

It is tropical and grows best in gardens in Zone 9-11, but it certainly can be used as a container plant and brought inside when cool. I live in zone 8A and I do not bring it inside and it grows wonderfully, but it does die back in the winter and comes back in the spring.

Do the flowers produce a seed pod and is it easy to grow the seed, or would you have to propagate from cutting? I would have to use this as a perenial and would like to have them year after year.

There are 2 kinds of plants commonly called angel's trumpets. One is datura, and the seed pod on it is a very spiky ball. The other angel's trumpet is brugmansia,(This is the kind up for auction) and it has a seed pod that looks kind of like a fat pea pod or a skinny chile pepper. In each case, the seeds are inside the pods. The seed pods develop at the base of the flower, so don't remove the flowers as they fade if you want to collect seeds. You need to let the pods ripen on the plant for the seeds inside to mature. The pods will slowly turn brown, and when they are dry, you can pick them to collect the seeds. Both kinds of angel's trumpets have seed pods that you will easily see, so if you haven't seen any, the flowers may not have been pollinated.

Sow Angels Trumpet seed from February to March. To help with germination, soak Angels Trumpet seed in warm water for 24 hours before sowing.

Place seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Gently water, then seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at a temperature of between 15-20ÂșC. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination.

Try to keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged. The seed should germinate within 14-30 days.

When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 3in pots or trays. Plant out once plants are well grown approximately 5ft apart or transplant into 10in containers.

For best results, provide a moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Do not feed the plants at this point, but water well.

Provide a minimum winter temperature of 7C (they may need to be brought in under protection to achieve this) and reduce watering over the winter.

Angel's Trumpet plants require minimal pruning, and the removal of old flower heads - although plants can be cut back to base during spring to rejuvenate every few years.
