Description
The listing, gold filled glorious antique black mourning cameo has ended.
A pretty piece that appears to be in a setting that to me looks to be gold filled. very ornate. it doubles as a pendant as well. it measures an inch and a half tall. the cameo itself is made of jet black glass. the new owner will be pleased with this. cam 1
This is a brief synopsis for anyone who does not know the history of the mourning cameo. It begins with the coronation of a really young Queen Victoria in 1837. She loved jewelry, was very artistic and created designs for her jewelry (the Victorian Era) She influenced jewelry design her entire life. When her beloved husband Albert died she went into permanent mourning, only wearing black clothes and black jewelry. Jet, fossilized driftwood became the new medium to carve jewelry. The Victorian era ends with her death in 1901. She was 87 years old. See Victoriana Magazine The History of Victorian Jewelry. Educate yourself and see the most beautiful precious gem Intaglio or Cameos. OMG!
I collect cameos and this one is quite pretty. Without having it in hand can't really determine the gold content, but I can test it if I win the auction. As for age, clasp is an indicator. Don't like bidding till last hour. Will bid though. Fanned you , please fan back.
This is very beautiful regardless of age. Cameos never go out of style & the mourning cameo is still very popular world wide. You have great auctions going on :)

They also brought back the cameo in the 40,s50,s60s Jenny she didn't say what it was , she doesn't know , it is a very pretty piece , I have many of them from the 50's and 60's
who's hair is this made of and exactly how old ? Looks too new to be a true "mourning" broach as it went out of fashion in 1890's early part of 1900 ...
