Premium account basically means your son will be able to play online and he will be able to download updates to the game. Notch, the developer, is constantly updating and adding stuff to the game but with a free account you only get the basic version of it and no online play. Speaking personally? The basic version is dreadfully boring and NOTHING compared to premium
