The listing, India's obsolete COINS [ 1 paisa ] has ended.
While the British were still ruling our country, Indian
currency was also following the British 3-tier system
of Paisa > Anna > Rupee.
In 1957*, the new Democratic India finally decided to
"go decimal" along the lines of "modern world" led by
U.S.A.
However, this last edition of the omnipresent "1 Paisa"
was firmly 1/100 part of the modern Indian Rupee and
merely 600+ of these could buy a MIGHTY U.S. Dollar.
Yes ! The dollar did start its journey from $1 = Re.1
But now, with the metals becoming so expensive, you
must be willing to pay a dollar for only TWO of these
1p. ALUMINUM coins
The earliest avatar - One Quarter Anna - fetches so
much more for some "rare years" but one can get two
for a dollar as well in the streets of Chandni Chowk.
Rather than having a decidedly poor History teacher in
me - why not GOOGLE to know more ?
