Description

The listing, Buddleia Butterfly Bush has ended.

Enjoy the beauty of this fabulous flower and the enchanting butterflies it attracts. These photos were taken in my own yard and it was not unusual to find 15-20 of these beauties feeding on my bush at the same time.

This auction is for 40 seeds. Please be aware that these seeds are so tiny that the human eye has trouble seeing them. They were harvested from my own bush and the color in the photo is the color you will have when they begin blooming.

Growing Buddleia from Seed
You will need: Some loam based compost, clean seed trays, a small amount of fine light coloured sand, and peat pots.

Step 1: Fill the seed tray with the loam based compost and let it stand in about 1" of water for 15 minutes. Remove the seed tray and let it drain for 1/2 an hour.

Step 2: Mix the Buddleia seed with the fine light coloured sand. You only need about half a handful of sand.

Step 3: Sprinkle the surface of the compost with the sand/seed mix, trying to cover the surface as evenly as possible. Gently tap the sand/seed mix. Do not cover the seeds with compost.

Step 4: Place the tray in a light sunny position indoors and spray as needed with a fine water sprayer to keep the compost damp. The seeds should germinate in about three weeks.

Step 5: When the seedlings have four proper leaves remove them from the compost and put in peat pots (one per pot) Keep the compost damp.

Step 6: When seedlings are large enough, plant them in well drained soil with plenty of space to grow and lots of sunshine.

At the end of the season, prune back the bush to about 2 ft, leaving two or three buds above the base. Late winter or early spring is the best time.
