Would these work in place of a 1GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM ?

DDR2-800 modules should work fine but will only run at DDR2-533 speed - Faster memory can be used in lower speeds but lower speed rated memory can not always run at the faster speed

no, just saying that the memory would run but at the lower speed/Mhz that your computer can handle

How much memory do you have in your laptop now? if you only have 1gb or less then yes this will bring you up to 2gb and increase your speed
