Description

The listing, SAMSUNG EPIC 4G SMART PHONE *MINT* ORIGINAL BOX + LOTS OF EXTRAS (SPRINT) RETURNS has ended.

Samsung Epic 4G Smart Phone on the SPRINT Network. It can be flashed to one of the Straight Talk networks. It can also be unlocked and used on any network, but I have no idea how this works : )

It has a slide out keyboard for easy texting and comes with a 1GB Micro SD card. The charger port DOES NOT work but is covered with a slide that closes, which is pretty nice; HOWEVER the phone comes with an EXTERNAL BATTERY CHARGER, which plugs into any wall outlet, and THREE BATTERIES:

In addition the phone comes with 2 cases:
* Red Rubberized Hard-shell Case
* London Blue Rubberized Hard-shell Case

I just did some checking online and read that the phone could be flashed but that it could not be unlocked to be used with another carrier. Can you tell me what your source of information was that indicated this phone could be unlocked? Thank you

I can not possibly thank you enough for asking this! I am very seriously still trying to recover from my over 2hr conversation with Sprint. You are exactly correct. I got the information from reading every other auction in which this exact same phone was listed.

Had you not asked then someone may have won this believing it can be unlocked when in fact it can not. It can, however, be flashed and used as a Straight Talk phone on some networks. I posted a link in an earlier comment addressing this.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I found in trying to get my phone number off the phone, which took an hour, some idiot at Sprint had listed my phone as lost or stolen! I completely lost it with them, quite literally going so far off the rails you don't even want to know! It's a long story but suffice it to say, they're letting me out of my contract penalty free and I just upgraded to the S5, if that tells you anything. It took over an hour and I had to deactivate a phone on my account so they could activate this one in order to remove it from the lost or stolen list, all the while making me hold with that blaring music.

I owe you a huge debt of gratitude, because if you had not asked I would have never called to find out or ask how to remove my number from showing on the phone; and when the winner tried to activate the phone I would have looked like a liar, but more importantly the person wouldn't have been able to activate it, causing a s-storm! I'm so (the p word) at Sprint! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for saying that. I believe being completely honest and there is no way I will sell a phone to anyone who would not be able to use it.

Not to sound mean or anything, but did you own the phone outright? I am asking because I bought a used phone once and was told I had to pay off the old users past due account before I could have it unlocked for me to use.

What a great question! I certainly would want to know this information if I planned to purchase a used phone, whether it be on Listia, Craigslist or Ebay. I bought this phone brand new using one of my upgrades with Sprint and am the only person who has owned and/or used the phone. Thanks for asking : )

I just got off the phone with a very well informed CSR from Sprint. This phone will work on their 3G network and any other networks when roaming, however it is not 4G LTE capable. I appreciate your question as I was able to learn crucial factors regarding 3G, 4G, 4G LTE and (Sprint Spark) affecting all network providers including Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T. The vast majority have no clue because it is by design, and it's called CORPORATE GREED.

No kidding! The way it reads is also confusing. It's as if you sign up and aren't charged the 750 credits until the beginning of the next month. So not the case. They prorate for the current month and I couldn't tell you what kind of math they use!

Yes, that is correct and it plugs into any wall outlet. It is also pictured in one of the photos as well. The phone comes with 2 Samsung 1500mAh batteries and a brand new never been used Samsung 3500mAh extended battery and back cover. When using the external battery charger there are 2 Gold prongs that must be aligned with the gold things on the batteries. I always needed to lift the first one up a little with my fingernail before sliding the battery in to charge it. It has an LED indicator, which shows solid red if it's not aligned correctly with the battery. I believe it blinks Red until charged and then turns Green when fully charged. This will charge the extended battery as well and the battery made for the Samsung Galaxy S2. You can buy a Samsung 1800aMh battery (one in the S2) for under $4.00 not including S&H. If you want the website info, let me know. I was shocked to see it for that price given it was a Samsung battery.

does it use sim card?
May 22nd, 2014 at 11:23:23 PM PDT by
Original
No, it only has a slot for the Mini SD card. If you're wondering about a Straight Talk service, the only thing I've been able to decipher in trying to learn more is that the phone can be "flashed" - Wait, I'll Google it now. Found a very informative article on an XDA forum and there is no possible way for me to explain it here, but this is the link:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265555

Good luck, and I hope this helps : )

Does this a 4G LTE? Sprint has converted all of its towers, in my area to LTE, so anything older will not respond
May 19th, 2014 at 8:37:50 AM PDT by
Original
I have been reading everything I possibility can online to answer your question and I can't seem to find a clear cut answer; however, I believe in honesty and I don't believe this phone is LTE capable. You may certainly call Sprint and ask them specifically (800-211-4727) but don't be surprised if you are provided with misinformation. I have found the CSR's at Sprint to be very kind and helpful and the only reason I have not switched providers; but for the most part they are not properly trained. I can not begin to tell you the number of times I've been given incorrect information regarding the a specific problem.

You can ask the particular network if you Samsung Galaxy Epic will work on their network and they will be able to tell you. This much I do know. Also if you read the comments I included a link to an article that I believe will addresse your question.

Your auction just went through the roof man! Congrats. I noticed you had 150 people watching. Too bad Listia won't give you the badge if 150 aren't watching when it ends. Have to say you earned it because you did stuff other people wouldn't do when people asked a question. I've learned alot from reading your comments.

You are very welcome. It is not a 4G capable phone. You will only be able to get 3G coverage. Honesty and integrity (along with compassion, kindness, respect and loyalty) are values I believe to be of most importance in this world : )

To the person asking if it is LTE. It is not. It is the first generation 4G. But it will work just fine anywhere on the Sprint network. Just because your area has LTE now doesn't mean this phone will be slower than if your area didn't have LTE. Regarding using this on Straight Talk.... you don't flash the phone to run on Straight Talk. Straight Talk is a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) and one of the carriers they use is Sprint. They have been offering BYOP (bring your own phone) for awhile for Sprint phones. There are some settings that have to be adjusted in the phone but Straight Talk will give you instructions on how to change those so that the data and MMS works correctly. Just wanted to explain how it works so people won't be scared that that the phone has to be actually flashed (which is not something the average user knows how to do).
