The listing, Antique Engraved Aluminum Horse Bit has ended.
This bit belonged to my great great aunt. We found it in storage. The detail is amazing. It is real light and is a curb type bit. It sits comfortably in my horses mouth. It is used but is in super great shape. It could be worth a lot of money but I don't want to bother so here is a great chance to own some horse history. LOL I bet it's 150 years old...
Questions & Comments
Can you please tell me what the stamp on the inside says? Can't quite tell. Would like to look it up.
It is really a neat item. It's really light and usable too. It does have a great history. My aunt said her hubby rode in the war and was sure he used this bit.??/
Lol this is a grazing curb but it is definetly a bit you can use on a horse. I don't personally use them on any of the horses I have now as I prefer mullen mouth bits but we used one similar to this last year on my daughter's show horse for her pleasure classes.
I know a few people that use them, they always come on headstalls because they are just kind of a generic type of bit. I tried doing some research on the company that made yours and couldn't find anything. The closest i came was a company that made bits very similar and they made them starting in the 30's so I'm guessing that's about when this one was made.
First off I love your actions trying start up a small western riding school so I'm always looking at your stuff lol.
The bit is made by COLO. BIT & SPUR. (COLORADO BIT & SPUR maker) they are still around today making bits and spurs for their quality of work they're pretty reasonable priced. I love the history with this piece and would probably put it on display if I won the action I would love for my students to see history right before their eyes!!!
