The prickly pear cactus was designated the official plant symbol of Texas in 1995. Found in the deserts of the American southwest, the fruits of most prickly pear cacti are edible, and have been a source of food to native Americans for thousands of years. Cacti in general (and the fruits in particular) are still staple foods for some residents of Mexico and Latin America and the prickly pear cactus is raised commercially. The fruit is sold under the name "Tuna"; the branches or pads are eaten as a vegetable, called "nopalito" or "nopales

Here for another one...
With these do they have the really short thorns and a bunch of them?
Also do the flower like a redish pink or is it a yellow?

Do they root pretty easy in like a moist type soil or you recommend something different?

they will root in about anything, I have rooted them in miracle grow potting soil, in a mixed soil I made with sand, potting soil, and peat moss, but really I think they do the best just putting them in the ground, just dirt, they are not picky

after planting let soil start to get dry and then water, keep doing that until it starts to grow, then start watering less often, maybe like once or twice a month

I do remember this plant as a little kid my younger brother and I were playing and fell into the patch of these and I remember having to get the prickles all pulled out of our hands and legs. That is why I thought they were a yellow color flower on them.
