Hi, no, not a stupid question at all! This is not a pattern to cut out or trace; this pattern tells you what size pieces of fabric to cut from your yardage and then how to assemble those rectangles together to make the placemats. The back of the pattern tells you the yardage needed to make four or six placemats, the usual numbers in sets of placemats, but of course you can make any number of them that you want. If you have a rotary cutter, acrylic rotary ruler, and a rotary cutting mat, these will be very easy to cut out from your fabric because the pieces are all strips and rectangles. (If you don't have the rotary cutting equipment yet but want to get into quilting, get it! You won't believe how easy it will make cutting out the shapes for a project like this! Any quilt shop will be happy to show you how to use these tools.) Good luck bidding, and welcome to quilting! This would be a good beginning project because it's not too big!

Yes, this seems like a nice versatile pattern! I have another copy and have the fabric to make Christmas placemats for my sister but, as you say, motivation is the issue! lol I have lots of plans but need to actually execute them!! :-)
