Description

The listing, 1915 Buffalo China Steamer Bowl? has ended.

The reason there is a question mark in my description is because I'm not really sure what the plate with holes is for, I was making an assumption! It is an antique and it is beautiful. In mint condition. No cracks or chip and I would assume also, that it is hand painted. Good luck on the auction! I SO NOT HAVE PAY PAL SO I WILL REQUIRE A MONEY ORDER OR WELL CONCEALED CASH (the risk is yours, I am honest!)FOR THE SHIPPING COST! Sorry, looking in to paypal. Please don't let this stop you from getting this beautiful bowl an all the energy it Carries with it!

Reading Material till the auction gets going: Dear, Back then, butter was not in stick form. It came from a cow who had a calf the past year, her milk is sweet and heavy with butter fat calories for her calf to grow strong muscles with (good cholesterol). It was then chilled and delivered to families by horse drawn carts on the way to town each morning, the remainder sold to city folk, restaurants, cafes, the Druggists and Doctor's, lastly to a few small stores. Each place it was delivered to had to chill it till it was used, no refrigeration, the ICE MAN COMETH before the milkman. Some Milk was placed in a butter churn, a wooden steep sided barrel, with a lid and a hole in that lid. A long handle with a (Ice Cream Machine Type) Paddle on it's end was slipped through the hole in the lid, then they were settled into the top of the churn. That person would then commence to slowly rotate and spin the churn paddle till she /he could feel the weight of a three pounds of butter from 3 gallons of milk, forming on the paddle blades. By the sound of the left over milk whey sloshing around, one knew when all the butter had been churned from the milk. The Butter was scrapped off the blades, patted into rounds, balls, logs, squares to fit the houses butter dishes. The butter balls are kept in the big ICE BOX,till meal time & added below the "FROG".Then the butter is placed on top,all is covered with a nice cloth till meal time. But the pride of ownership over that may years is because of the lean times they went through, but still had a butter dish;when most could ill afford margarine that you had to mix yellow food coloring into. This walk down history lane brought to you by:Been there,Done that.

Thanks so much been there done that! My mama, from Alabama still had an d butter churn in her kitchen when I visited the old homestead as a child. I asked, can I churn some butter? She gladly said, well yes...if you want your arms to fall off! I said, well...can I make ice cream then? She set up the old ice cream maker, with cream and rock salt and I proceeded to crank. And crank, and crank, and crank! After about two hours, my little arms felt like noodles and...I had soft serve! ; )

Its probably about 5-6 inches across and two inches deep. It is really beautiful and for being 98 years old?...somebody loved it for a long time for it to be in perfect shape! It will hold a stick of butter perfectly!
