These seeding plants came with me from Iowa to Arkansas and finally here to Sunny Southern California. They can withstand the harshest winter, driest drought, blazing sun, shadiest dark corner, in the bare spots under pines, and love being mowed over in the yard. They will pop up a new bloom before next weeks mowing. In the spring so prolific you can pick a massive handful in minutes. Mine grow year round here, always have seed pods, which spring open to scatter seed, or you can pinch these off. My plants leaves are 4 to 6 inches, year round. The ones we had in Iowa usually were 1 inch leaves, close to the ground and a flower stem about 4 to 5 inches high. Single bloom of one inch of deep purple with white center.These can be grown indoors, and with limits on room, fertilizer, sun can be kept moderate in size. They do not crowd other plants, or take over. Just sprinkle on bare moist soil, in the yard, or a pot. These were always a favorite picking flower for the kids (myself too) to give Mom's, and Gram's.
