Just to help clarify the symbolism on this coin. The torch here is not an Olympic Torch. It is the Torch of Freedom and this reverse was used on the 1944 & 45 nickels because at the time the world was involved in WWII. The "V" on the back represented the desire for Victory. I believe the nickel was used because the "V" also is the Roman Numeral Character for 5. Regardless in 1946 the Nickel returned to having the Beaver on the reverse side of the nickel.
