Baptisia has flowers of the prettiest blue! Mine grow to about 3 1/2 feet tall. The foliage is pretty as well. The flowers grow on a long spikes similar to lupine. The seed pods dry to a dark grey/black and make a rattling sound (my husband says like a rattlesnake, LOL). Baptisia will grow just about anywhere, however, they prefer well drained soil and full sun. I grew these from seeds that were given to me. The ones I offer here are pod fresh! Direct sow or in a pot. Lightly cover with soil and keep moist.

Baptisia hardiness zone is 4-9.

Culture

Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Best in full sun. Tolerates drought and poor soils. Over time, plants develop slowly expanding clumps with deep and extensive root systems, and should not be disturbed once established. May be grown from seed, but takes several years to establish. Plants take on more of a shrubby appearance and tend to open up after bloom. Trimming or shearing foliage after bloom helps maintain rounded plant appearance and obviates a possible need for staking, but eliminates the developing seed pods which are so attractive.

Do you think I can grow this indoors with plant lights and some sun?

These get 2 1/2 feet tall and also they need full sun. I'm not sure if this would work. Sorry to say I don't have much experience with plant lights. Do you live in an apartment? If so you could see if you could utilize an outdoor sunny area until it gets cold and try bringing them in. It would totally be an experiment. I grow mine in the ground and they come back in the Spring. I wish I could be more help. Try looking it up on the internet. Maybe someone has experience with growing these indoors. Thanks and good luck!
