Questions & Comments
Coin silver spoons are usually stamped with numbers verifying content as are sterling spoons stamped with the sterling mark. Are these stamped?
well i will tell you this, 1 is stamped 1847 and it is the 1 with the strain holes. so i would say these were made before the actual 925 or coin stampings. the stamp is 1847 rogers brothers IS. that is what is stamped on these spoons. and they definitely are silver
Is stands for international silver company which bought out the Rogers name around the end of the 1800's. I can guarantee you they were not made in 1847. International silver company and even Oneida used the Rogers name well into the 1900's. I'm sorry but the las Vegas spoon may very well be silver but the IS you mentioned means silver plated. Please eff not t as me the information I have provided wrong as I am not knocking your auction and am just trying to figure out what you were offering. I like all 3 regardless if silver or just plated.
well, you know a lot more about antiques than me.. if you are interested give a bid as an offer. these came from my deceased brother in laws estate and he was an antique dealer. so, do your best and have fun. best regards.
Thank you for not tripping out on me. I don't know as lot about antiques but I've met some very knowledgeable people on here that have provided info along the way. I try to help when I can but usually people take it wrong. I will definitely be watching this and if I have enough at the end I will throw a bid on it.
Your pieces are not coin...they are silver plate.....coin is 90% pure silver melted down from silver coins....yours are a layer of silver over some kind of base metal
