No key. Look at the pictures; what you see is all there is.

What does that brown knob do when you try to turn it? also can you pull the knob out towards you and if so,what does it do.just spent an hour looking at these things on the usual sites and also went to a westclox site but i can't find one like yours and it's making me crazy:)

It turns, but can't be pulled out or anything. It's an antique. They stopped making them in the 30s, I think. I'm sure you can get it to work again if you are good with clocks or mechanics in general.

Its not that, there is no winding key visible which all these clocks have.it's not a battery operated model so you have to be able to activate it somehow and the back of your clock has nothing anywhere that i can see that would do that.that's why i asked about the brown knob.it's just an interesting mystery.thanks for your input.:)
